Coffee makers have been in the news lately. The BlitzHome CM 5XXX series wasn't a success story, so I was really hoping that the Hibrew H4C would finally solve one of the big problems of coffee making: portability. The 4C is designed for this, heating water with an 18650 battery, which in theory can make black soup for several people from ground coffee, Nespresso and Dolce Gusto capsules.
Fortunately, the H4C also has a Type-C port, so it can be charged from a power bank on the go.

The batteries do two things: on the one hand, they can be replaced with larger capacity ones , thus increasing the number of coffees you can make, and on the other hand, if you carry extra sets with you, you don't have to charge them, but can be quickly replaced. The cap of the Hibrew H4C is the cup itself, while on the side there are two buttons for operation and a status indicator for monitoring the charge level. It's not too complicated to use, but that's exactly the point of this product: 2 button presses and coffee is ready . I would skip the ground variant in your place, stick with the capsule, this device is not for baristas, but for those in a hurry.

You may have noticed one more thing about the disassembled coffee maker: in the upper part there is the “boiler”, that is, the boiling part, into which you can fill a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 100 ml of water. And here comes the twist, the Hibrew H4C actually heats the water, not just pushes it through itself. In the case of 50 milliliters, it does this 3-4 times, in the case of 100 ml, say one and a half times, but you can’t make half-warm coffee, so count on a maximum of 2x 100 ml, then you have to change the battery or charge it, which takes 3 hours.
For example, you won't be able to make a long coffee for a carload of people unless you change the battery several times.
The first instructive experience is that it makes two espressos from 50 ml, which will be a very short, 25 ml shot, and it brews in about 4-6 minutes, depending on the temperature. The Segafredo Pod recommends 20-30 ml for one dose, but it cannot be used with less than 50 milliliters of liquid. This amount of water is about right for 2 espressos, but since the tank is 100 ml, you can also make Lungos, or long coffees, but only for one person at a time. And this is one of the main problems, that the maximum of 4-6 espressos or 2-3 Lungos from a single battery charge is quite meager. But this is not what makes it inconvenient to use, but the fact that making 3 long coffees can take up to 18 minutes.

The coffee maker's elements seal surprisingly well, it can be packed away even when it's almost full, and it won't leak, but don't do that. In the first 5 minutes of making coffee, while the water is heating up, there's no point in holding it, so it's worth placing it on the stand, which will make the Classic packaging look a bit bulky. However, a very large glass won't fit under the stand - but the machine's lid can - so you'll have to start the "brewing" again for two Lungos. The machine doesn't stop automatically and you can't set a timer, so if you want to drink a shorter coffee than 50 ml, you'll have to interrupt the process, otherwise the Hibrew H4C will water down the final result or, after it runs out, it will start empty.
Changing the capsule is not as easy as you might think, because the machine will get quite hot, as it has to heat the water to between 85-95 degrees Celsius,
which condenses on the metal container, which is hot enough not to touch. The same thing happens with the coffee capsule: it's hot and drips all over the place.

So the same saying applies here as when eating a juicy peach: strip naked and lie in the bathtub, then it will be easier to wash the juice off you. Or, version 2, everything will be pure yuva, like in the kung fu movie Ping-Pong : it would have been better to choose option “A” after all.
Summary
To summarize the above: the Hibrew H4C coffee maker can be kept or not, can make good coffee or not, can be used or not, just like in the parable of “King Matthias’s pigeons”. You can experiment with it, you could even make 6-8 espressos with it with one filling, but the whole process is quite laborious, I’m not sure it’s worth it. But, I emphasize: there are situations in life when it’s still useful to have a portable coffee maker, for example, in a tent in the middle of the forest, on a riverbank where there’s no electricity, or on top of a mountain.
I would also recommend a set of larger capacity 18650 battery packs so you can brew more coffee at once. However, this will drive up the prices, which means you can buy a lot of coffee at gas stations, even in Germany.
