Hibrew H11 Espresso Coffee Machine Test: When Matter Is Lost and Not Transformed

Hibrew H11 Espresso Coffee Machine Test: When Matter Is Lost and Not Transformed

I really like the formality of drinking coffee, for which a suitable espresso machine is a great companion. Hibrew is one of the largest Chinese manufacturers that exports its products to the Far East, one of their entry products is the Hibrew H11, which is also capable of vaping.

Hibrew H11 Espresso Coffee Maker Test - Average knowledge, but cheeky

I would not claim that the market of coffee machines so far we would have tested it to ruin, but still a couple Hibrew and BlitzWolf/BlitzHome product visited us, and out of self-diligence I tried a few machines privately, so I have some idea of what makes a good coffee maker. THE entry-level espresso machines are made for just one cup, each of them is some kind of white label product, they prefer the De'Longhi Dedica EC 685 BK, which I know because we have one in our family. That is, there is a portafilter at the end of the arm that diverts the juice in two directions, a steam tube on the side for frothing the milk, and that's about it.

The Hibrew H11 does not differ much from this basic logic, so the kind of coffee you make can be roughly predicted: you will find a relatively solid crema on top of an espresso made up of perfectly tolerable flavors, as long as you work with the right coffee beans and grinder. I highly recommend the purchase of the latter, I think it adds more to coffee making than a basic espresso machine. THE Hibrew G3 not bad - test here -, I use it at home, but I recommend the Catler's entry-level models is - test here - which are actually relabeled Graef CM serial machines.

Returning to the Hibrew H11 coffee maker, if you peel off the decent packaging, a lot of accessories will be revealed, but most of them will be figured out by regular coffee makers:

  • coffee machine arm for portafilters
  • three types of portafilter, 1 single serving, 1 double serving and one for the ESE POD pillow
  • plastic measuring spoon and tamper
  • plastic pipe for water supply
  • description

The other parts – water tank and drip tray – are attached to the machine, but they can be removed for filling and cleaning. What I didn't really like was the quality, which might be surprising for a machine made mostly of stainless steel, but it has quite a lot of "fake metal" on it, especially compared to the BlitzHome BH-CM1503 or the De'Longhi EC 685 BK. For example, the function button of the steamer is also an object that looks like metal, as well as the bottom of the silver-polished upper part. The coffee spoon is incredibly light, as if a plastic insert had been placed on an aluminum rod, somehow this does not create a feeling of durability either.

On the other hand, the design came in, when I looked at it from two steps away, I believed that something serious was involved here.

It looks good built-in panel red/blue LED lighting, the lines of the machine are beautiful, the body is filigree, so it fits in a small space. There is a price for this, because apart from two espresso glasses, no other coffee cups fit on his tray, unlike, for example, BlitzWolf's product. The practical implication of this is that those who drink coffee with milk or make a cappuccino need a much larger glass, like the one that holds 40 ml of espresso. And these simply do not fit on the Hibrew H11 tray. The milk frother tube cannot be turned out enough either, this also interferes with the placement of the glasses, their addition the cooking time is quite long -22 sec - and much more liquid comes out than usual. Fortunately, this can be changed with a long press of the buttons.

What I didn't like was the lid of the water storage tank.

It is a thing that can be simply snapped off, there is no mechanism to hold it in place, it does not even open, it just "comes off" from the container. In contrast, the lever and the portafilter work with a rather clever solution. There is a small knot formed on the edge, this needs to be fitted in the right place. When turning the portafilter, the stuff jumps into place nicely, it doesn't get stuck like other models, and it doesn't fall out either. There is also a plastic clamp that can be folded over the edge of the portafilter, I think providing extra security against falling out. Tamper plastic is crap, buy a metal one, it's much cooler and better to hold the stainless steel surface.

The top of the Hibrew H11 has a coffee cup pre-heating surface,

true, I don't use this on myself either. The coffee is also good with glasses at room temperature, this is too niche a detail for me and has less impact on the overall picture. The machine holds 1,1 liters of water, which is quite a bit, it is worth using mineral water with a low mineral content or filtered water for cooking.

Hibrew H11 Espresso Coffee Maker Test - Nothing extra during operation

I washed the parts, then plugged in the machine, brewed a "blank", and then the first coffee came, which was 2 espressos, so that I wouldn't have to taste it alone. For coffee beans, the average is none San Giusto I used what a I ground it with a Hibrew G3 conical grinder. The result was exactly the same as with the BlitzHome BH-CM1503, which is not surprising: it is approx. same category.

The controls are also very similar to the two products, the Hibrew H11 has a push-button panel and a rotary switch at the front,

but everything can be guessed from the pictograms. The button in the middle of the panel turns the coffee machine on and off, and next to it you can choose whether to brew 1 or 2 portions of coffee. Turning the knob to the left gives you hot water, and turning it to the right produces steam if you want to froth milk. It is exemplary that they also stuck a small sticker on the side, which is actually a stylized instruction manual, it's a pity that it can only be seen from the side.

As for the brewing process, there is a short, approx. a one-minute warm-up period, and then the black juice will immediately begin to drip into your glass.

According to the press release coffee is extracted at 19 bar, but I think this is the most blinding statistic of coffee production. For some reason, the manufacturers think that the biggest number should be written here, i.e. 10 is worse than 15, and 15 is worse than 19. When BlitzWolf's sub-brand grinder model with a pressure sensor, the BlitzHome BH-CMM5 I tested it, that's when I realized how difficult it is to hit the right pressure value with the stopper and coffee ground to different grain sizes.

The 5 and 12 bar ranges were especially ideal there,

but this it depends on many things: from the fineness of the grinding, the strength and uniformity of the filling - for example, have you used them mixing needle -, from the amount of coffee, and so on. So don't fall for this, but for those who are more interested in the topic, you can buy a coffee machine with a pressure or temperature display, which is one more expensive category. Hebreww offers a H5, H8 and the H10A is also like this, but that particular pencil has a thicker grip than these.

And the manufacturer does not write a word about the temperature of the water,

and it doesn't matter if the coffee burns because of too hot liquid or if it doesn't even heat up to the right temperature, and because of this the flavors don't dissolve. My experience is that what is not highlighted by brands is usually the weak point of the product. We don't know what the water heater, the pump, etc. are like, so these are the parts that you can't boast about. This is perfectly fine anyway, since this is an entry-level machine, and the average coffee drinker won't notice the difference, but I think those who value niche things will have little knowledge of the Hibrew H11. On the other hand, for those looking for an espresso coffee machine in the 30-40 range, this is not a bad choice.
